Prehistoric crabs are a fascination and enrichment for every child’s room, as children learn for the first time to take social responsibility for a living creature. Due to the short life span of a maximum of 90 days, there is no overly strong attachment to the animals. Triops longicaudatus is an American species with the long forked tail and the shimmering carapace. It is a very fast growing animal and sexually mature within 14 days.
Triops females are able to lay eggs after about two weeks and bury them in the sand. After the Triops have reached the end of their life, you can dry the eggs with the sand, freeze them and then start breeding again. Due to the rapid growth of the Triops, there is certainly never a dull moment in the aquarium. Triops longicaudatus need a temperature in the range of 25° C and can be bred with distilled water, still mineral water or river and lake water. Water from a pond can also be taken.
Experience primeval times at home in your living room and with your children!
