Triops are omnivores and not choosy when it comes to food selection. They eat all day long, digging in the sand for food, nibbling on plants and sometimes eating their little sisters and brothers. Triops are known for cannibalism.

The animals have a very fast metabolism, so that despite the natural food supply already contained in the aquarium, the animals have to be fed by the keeper. Especially in the first days after hatching, some important things have to be observed. In the first days of life, the primeval crayfish have no teeth to reduce the size of the food, so they feed through the yolk sac. They obtain food from the bacteria and nutrients contained in the water. For this reason, not only distilled water but a mixture of 70 percent distilled and 30 percent still mineral water should be used for breeding. A good 48 hours after hatching, the Triops are fed for the first time. A toothpick tip of the juvenile food (spirulina powder) is sufficient for this.

Our juvenile food is excellent for optimally supplying the Triops with nutrients through the first days of life. The powder has a high proportion of proteins (approx. 60 percent) and carbohydrates with a fat content of about 10 percent.

It is important that the Triops are not overfed, as firstly, they can quickly die from overfeeding and secondly, water turbidity can develop. If the food is not eaten, bacteria will develop after a short time due to decay and have a negative effect on the water quality. A toothpick tip of the food is perfectly sufficient. The food can either be placed directly on the water surface or mixed with water in a test tube, pulled out with a pipette and the mixture injected into the tank. The second option has the advantage that the food is distributed throughout the entire tank and is therefore easier for the Triops to find.

As it is very fine, the spirulina algae powder is suitable for all types of primeval crabs as well as for brine shrimp, fairy shrimp and clam shells.

With the spirulina powder you create an optimal basis for healthy and strong triops.
